Trien Bien-French Food at Dempsey-Au Petit Salut

It's was a rainy day in Singapore today. Thankfully it's Friday we ( my girlfriend and I) decided to treat ourselves to some nice food, as obviously we were in no mood for partying.

So before we headed out we did a quick check on  http://www.ladyironchef.com/2010/07/dempsey-hill-restaurants-singapore/ to see whats good and headed out. Braving the light and irritating rain

I called the restaurant in advance, in case they have reservations etc., Considering its Friday night and they said walk in was fine. So now we are on our way.

We sat alfresco and took our time deciding what we were going to eat, so after much deliberation we skipped the set meal and ordered:

-Escargot
-Foe de grais
-Beef tartar
-Cheese platter
-Rack of lamb ( which we had to change to the beef)
-a tantalizing dessert platter of chocolate cake and other treats

All of this washed down with a nice Italian and French wine( recommended by the maitre de)

Ok the complimentary bread was awesome, I mean awesome

Staff knowledge and courtesy: excellent/friendly guys

Quality of food and taste:

Onion soup- awesome

Escargo/Snails- lovely and buttery

Steak tartar- juicy succulent and every bite was a gastronomic delight

Sirloin steak- looks amazing served on a side of a potato gel that looked like biscuits. As I bit into the beautiful pink steak the flavors of the sauce and the meat created a magical flavor in my mouth I cannot describe. My god this is lovely.

The caramelized onions and mushrooms were the heroes of the steak dish, delicately giving earthy flavors, making the steak heavenly. This was a a lovely experience

While we wait for our cheese platter and dessert, it's worth mentioning- the ambience is lovely. As it was a rainy night, the cool breeze and pleasant temperature made the experience  even better, the songs and the medley of croaking of garden frogs, made the evening rather memorable.

back to the food now....

So the last course is cheese and desserts and surely it was  the Pièce de résistance. Let me tell you what came on dessert platter- in short-bites of heaven
1-Almond and Chocolate toffee- Bites of earthy goodness, with velvety soft choclat creme
2-Orange and Chocolate brownie served with Orange Gelato-Hmm seemed ok, not that great
3- The Chocolate lava cake-Ozzing with warm tasty chocolate, makes you feel the same way when you feel in love-warm, mushy, out of this world.
4-Mango/passion fruit raspberry sorbet- I am sure Ambrosia is exactly like that. two flavors burst in on your tongue making you want for more. Perfect balance of sweet mango and passion fruit, with slightly tangy raspberries-a mariage made in heaven
5-Creme brule-A lovely caramel crust, which gives way to soft decadent creme brule, cooked to perfection, light as cloud, I cannot tell you...absolutely fanfuckingtastic.

The cheese platter was quite nice with slices of Edham, Gouda and blue cheese served withcut pear and fruit bread toasts and a delightful sweet tangy date chutney, which got everything together well

So, now you are ask what are the damages, well it isnt your regular kopitiam prices, a dinner like that for two will cost you S$ 100 ++ per head. But its a worthwhile experience to splurge once in a while.

Parting thoughts: Totally recommend going here, if you haven't been already, totally worth the money and the price...till my next update, as the french say Au Revoir!
